Oscar Aristides Renta Fiallo was known professionally as Oscar de la Renta, a Dominican-American fashion designer. Born in Santo Domingo with six sisters, he left the Caribbean to study painting in Madrid at the age of 18 (he initially wanted to become an abstract painter). 

De la Renta became known as one of the most famous Haute Couture designers in the world when he started his own label in 1965 and in 2014 the George Bush Presidential Center hosted an exhibition entitled "Oscar de la Renta: Five Decades of Style" that covered the designers creations for the First Ladies of America from Jaqueline Kennedy to Barbara Bush.
