Latin Lover

Latin Lover

Written on 10/23/2021

Antonio Moreno was born and raised in Spain. He moved to New York at an early age to pursue a career on stage. Moreno traveled to California and worked in bit parts in films until he was discovered by the film pioneer D.W. Griffith, who launched him on a screen career in 1914.

Moreno was a romantic leading man and was actually the screen's first "Latin Lover" before the term took on new meaning with the arrival of the Italian-born silent screen superstar Rudolph Valentino.

When they asked his name, he replied: “Antonio Garido Moreno Montagudo, at the service of you and God.”
